Welcome to God & Reason. We are a group of Christian Faculty and campus ministers who have been providing students and faculty a space for meaningful discussions and lectures since 2011. Our website offers resources and support to Christian Faculty, campus ministers, and student leaders who share our vision.
The Professors
DR. DOUGLAS ALLEN
Economics
I study the economics of organizations and institutions, and have taught for over forty years at various universities.
God and Reason has been life changing for me.
It has fostered closer relationships with students, and has changed many lives, including
my own.
DR. MICHAEL MONAGAN
Mathematics
My research area is about designing and implementing algorithms for doing mathematics.
I am one of the authors of the Maple software package for doing mathematics.
I really like programming and teaching mathematics.

For me, God and Reason is an answer to a prayer - a prayer that I asked for over 10 years;
God, what am I supposed to do for you here on this campus? How am I supposed to share your Gospel here?
DR. MARTIN ESTER
Computer Science
I love my research in the area of machine learning with a focus on biomedical applications.
I love teaching students, helping them with their professional and personal development.
The extra-curricular work with God and Reason has added even more meaning to my job as a professor.
DR. ALEXANDER MOENS
Political Science
International Politics is what has captivated me for over 35 years. In this world we find power but also principle. What is the relationship between these two?
There frankly is no better, no more reasoned and experienced answer to this question than which is revealed in the Bible.
Seven years ago, I started a new field program based on student experience and engagement with the international world of security and defence.
Both God and Reason and this field program help me see the individual student as that one soul that matters most.

In a historically secular space. God and Reason present reasonable arguments for theism based in good scholarship, presented by professors who are leaders in their secular fields of study. It is a place for skeptics, seekers and faithful students to explore, challenge and contemplate in a safe pro-reason environment the big questions of faith.

Our History
Sept 2011
Beginnings
In 2011, Dr. Douglas Allen and Dr. Alexender Moens asked Gary Stevenson the same question, "How can I share the gospel at Simon Fraser University without getting fired?"

Dr. Martin Ester and Dr. Michael Monagan also expressed interest shortly after.
2014
Became God & Reason
Through partnering with Christian students we established our own Christian club on campus called the SFU Christian leadership initiative. We hosted God & Reason and a number of other special lectures.
2023
Website Creation
For years, the professors discussed creating a website to equip professors to start God & Reason on their own campus. This website, godandreason.com, is the result.
